President Arif Alvi Approves Establishment of Large Taxpayer Office, Multan and Corporate Tax Office, Islamabad


President Arif Alvi has approved the establishment of the Large Taxpayer Office (LTO) Multan and Corporate Tax Office (CTO), Islamabad to facilitate the big units and corporate entities at Multan and Islamabad.

In this regard, the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has written letters to the Accountant General, Pakistan Revenue, Islamabad, Accountant General, Pakistan Revenue, Islamabad Deputy Accountant General, Pakistan Revenue, Lahore and District Accounts Officer, Mu!tan.

After the establishment of LTO Multan, the total number of the LTOs would stand four. At present, three LTOs i.e. LTO Karachi-I, LTO Lahore and LTO Islamabad are operating in the country.

The LTO Multan would cover the big entities and corporate units like sugar mills and fertilizer companies of Multan and adjacent areas. Presently, sugar mills and fertilizer companies of Multan are assessed at the LTO Lahore. Following the transfer of jurisdiction of these units from the LTO Lahore to LTO Multan, these fertilizer and sugar units would be assessed at the LTO Multan.

From September 1, 2020, the FBR had renamed its field offices while exercising powers under Section 4(1)(r) of FBR Act, 2007. Large Taxpayers Unit (LTU) Karachi, Lahore and Islamabad were renamed as Large Taxpayers Office (LTO) Karachi, Lahore and Islamabad.

The LTU-II Karachi was renamed as Medium Taxpayers Unit (MTU) Karachi. Further, Corporate Regional Tax Office (CRTO) Karachi and Lahore were renamed as CTO Karachi and Lahore. Regional Tax Office (RTO)-II Karachi was renamed as RTO-I Karachi and RTO-III Karachi was renamed as RTO-II Karachi. The RTO-II Lahore was renamed as RTO Lahore.

The establishment of the Corporate Tax Office (CTO), Islamabad would deal with the corporate companies falling within the jurisdiction of the Islamabad Capital Territory. Presently, big companies are assessed at LTU Islamabad and remaining all taxpayers at the RTO Islamabad.

The FBR’s letter to the Accountant General, Pakistan Revenue, Islamabad Deputy Accountant General, Pakistan Revenue, Lahore and District Accounts Officer, Multan said,

FBR convey the sanction of the President for the Establishment of Large Taxpayers Office (LTO), Multan within the existing sanctioned strength and Budget Grant during the fiscal year 2020-21 with immediate effect. This issues with the approval of Secretary Revenue Division/Chairman, FBR.

The FBR’s letter issued to the Accountant General, Pakistan Revenue, Islamabad stated, FBR convey the sanction of the President for the Establishment of Corporate Tax Office (CTO), Islamabad within the existing sanctioned strength and Budget Grant during the fiscal year 2020-21 with immediate effect.
